Cara and Jay’s New Orleans Garden District wedding was full of glamor and meaningful family traditions, including a very special veil. I knew their classic aesthetic would be perfect forfilm photography. When I photographed their wedding, I brought a new-to-me film camera and some colorful film. The resulting images are stunning.
Colorful Film Photography
Wedding photography means so much because it’s how we can show future generations the amazing diverse ways love can look. Film photography makes that message hit home in a different ways. The softer colors have so much life, and the images are inviting. Even Cara’s contemporary fashions feel timeless on film.
If you ask me, the new film photography trend in weddings is great! (The Knot actually interviewed me about it recently.) I first fell in love with photography in my high school’s darkroom. It shaped my approach to lighting and composition in wedding photography, and I feel very lucky to have those technical foundations that make for beautiful images.
A Ceremony with Thoughtful Details
Cara and Jay held their New Orleans Garden District wedding ceremony at Trinity Church. The grand setting suited Cara’s glamorous ensemble. Light filtered through the stained glass window and reflected off the gold details of the church interior.
The show stopping feature of Cara’s outfit was definitely her veil, which trailed down the steps during the ceremony. It’s an heirloom that has been passed down through generations of her family since 1915. Can you imagine all the weddings that veil has seen? Having film photographs of Cara in the veil adds a tangible connection between her and the next generation to wear it. It’s really a moment where you can feel wedding photography becomes part of a legacy.
A New Orleans Garden District Wedding Reception
Following the ceremony at the church, Cara and Jay opted to have their reception at a private residence. Calling this a “backyard wedding” would not do it justice. The reception had all the luxurious details you would expect from a New Orleans Garden District wedding. They installed a custom dance floor and had abundant floral installations on two stories of the exterior of the house. It felt like being in an enchanted garden with the flowers all over the table and even the cake.
Thank Before their wedding day, Cara expressed that she loves candid images that don’t look posed. This New Orleans Garden District wedding was so full of joy that I didn’t have any problems coming through for her! I love the way so many sweet moments translated to film. The interactions between Jay, Cara, and their family members shine in the rich tones of the film.
The exciting night ended with a pedicab exit. Cara and Jay were beaming as they rode away to their after party at the Tchoup Yard.
