This Jackson Square engagement photo session was taken in the early hours of the morning at Jackson square. As most people know, its best to arrive early in New Orleans since the crowds and heavy traffic come later. When I arrived early I was able to capture some candid images that would not have been possible once the crowd arrived. While photographing on Jackson square there are a few tips I can share with you to get the most beautiful images.
Jackson Square is the most iconic location in New Orleans. The architecture is breath-taking, and it offers a variety of picturesque scenes including Mississippi riverfront views and beautiful architecture. There are a few tips I can share with you to get the best photographs in Jackson square.
5 Tips for Jackson Square Engagement Photos
- Arrive early (like pre-9am early) you’ll beat the crowds and have more time to spend wandering around the park
- If you would like pictures within the iron fences, you will need a $50 permit which you can obtain from New Orleans Parks and Parkways
- Pick off-season days/months. A Tuesday is going to give you much more room for photographs than a peak season Saturday
- Wear clothing that picks up light (like satin, leather, velvet.) Jackson Square has a lot of shade from the beautiful oak trees. Wearing fabric that picks up light will help you stand out in your images. Check this post for our full what-to-wear guide!
- Plan to hit the rest of the french quarter after! Don’t stop at Jackson Square! The whole french quarter is beautifully romantic
After we had taken pictures at Jackson Square, we walked around and explored the french quarter looking for areas that would make a great setting for engagement pictures. We were able to find a few good areas filled with beautiful architecture, sculptures, and interesting buildings. New Orleans is known for its history, unique culture, and colorful architecture. We made the most of our time in the rain-soaked city by shooting our engagement photos on the colorful streets of the french quarter.
