When people ask me what to wear for their engagement photos, I tell them to wear something that they can move in and that makes them feel like themselves. (I have a whole what to wear guide, but those are the most important pieces.) Paris chose a modern white poofy dress for her spring engagement photos with Daniel. It added to the carefree energy of their sweet images.
Paris’s Modern Poofy Dress
Paris’s poofy dress was such a fun, modern choice for her spring engagement photos. Poofy dresses and bold sleeves are big in wedding attire this year. The combination of 80s and 90s fashion and period pieces like Brigerton has set the stage for a bit more drama in wedding wear. I love that Paris chose to bring this into her engagement photos with a poofy dress.
This modern poofy dress fit so well into the historic French Quarter, too. The big sleeves and flared skirt echo elements of fashion from New Orleans’ past as much as current trends. Paris looked so contemporary but still so perfect for the setting.
To make her poofy dress feel fresh, Paris styled it with white sunglasses and green heels. The mint heels with feathers had playful spring vibes. White sunglasses also have been a favorite accessory for weddings lately.
Fun Spring Engagement Photos in the French Quarter
Paris and Daniel are as fun as you would imagine from their spring engagement photos. These music lovers live in Phoenix but love to visit New Orleans. It’s so clear that Paris and Daniel have fun together. They told me that they’d always been supportive of one another’s dreams. “It wasn’t ever a question of if we would get married,” they said, “just when.”
Their engagement story shows their adventurous side. In April, they drove a camper van from Phoenix to California. Once they made it to San Francisco, Daniel proposed near the Golden Gate Bridge. Paris was so tired from their morning in Sequoia National Park that she almost didn’t get out of the van! Daniel convinced her to get out for just one picture, and Paris was glad he did.
The colorful French Quarter was a great engagement photo location for Paris and Daniel. The vibrant pink and yellow houses add to the lighthearted feeling. Even the neutral-colored buildings have deep green shutters and elaborate iron balconies to add texture and character. These images give the sense that Paris and Daniel are off to explore the world together.
When we took these spring engagement photos, we managed to get plenty of images with few people in the background. The French Quarter gets so busy on weekends. Whenever possible, I recommend taking engagement photos midweek when the streets are a little quieter.
The French Quarter lends itself to some creative photography. The image of Paris and Daniel looking in a shop window is one of my favorites from this session. It tells a whole story and feels like a window into their lives.
Towards the end of the session, Paris and Dan popped a bottle of champagne! This series of images show them having such a great time being present with each other. Popping a bottle in the street felt like one of those magic New Orleans moments.
It was such a pleasure to take Paris and Daniel’s New Orleans engagement photos. I’m just as excited to photograph their wedding at The Seraphim House next spring. They’re hoping to do a bar hop and second line in lieu of a rehearsal dinner, which feels very true to them!
