Camille and Drew’s intimate wedding took place at some iconic French Quarter locations. Their St. Louis Cathedral ceremony led to a dance-filled reception at The House of Blues. Even though their day was full of energy and laughter, their attention to custom details gave their wedding a deeply personal feeling. I was excited to learn that Drew is, in Camille’s words, “an avid lover of film photography.” Their beautiful intimate wedding translated to tender, nostalgic images on film.
Soft and Colorful Wedding Portraits on Film
Film photography fits an intimate wedding because it feels so intimate. The colors and textures from Camille and Drew’s wedding photos are soft and inviting. Even in the photos with people in the background, it’s easy to feel like you’re being swept away to another place and time. Camille and Drew will be able to look at these wedding portraits on film and remember the emotions of their wedding day.
We started the day at Camille’s AirBnB in the Marigny, just across Esplanade Avenue from the French Quarter. Starting the day here gave us a chance to take wedding party portraits on colorful streets that tend to be quieter than the bustling Quarter. Everything about these photos have a romantic softness balanced by rich colors and joy. I love the muted rose and sheen of the wedding party’s dresses against the warm yellow house.
During the first look, the bird of paradise behind Drew gives their film photography a lush tropical moment. We spent most of the day surrounded by warm tones and light colors. The cooler greens and blues of the first look location look lovely on film too.
Custom Wedding Details
When it came to wedding details, Camille and Drew customized the things that mattered most to them. They have elegant taste and love a good party! Their thoughtful attention to their clothes and reception details resulted in a day that reflected that perfectly.
Camille’s wedding dress is easily the most enchanting example of her attention to detail. Pearly beads gather at her waist and cuffs and spread across the sheer overlay. Would you believe that Camille beaded the dress herself? I’m blown away by her talent. She essentially made herself a bespoke wedding gown. This kind of art can seem like something out of the past, but Camille made it fresh and contemporary. Having these film photos of the dress feels even more touching knowing all the work Camille put into it.
The reception details embraced some of Camille and Drew’s favorite things about New Orleans. They wanted their intimate wedding to have an atmosphere infused with New Orleans magic. A live band got everyone dancing beneath the gold and silver mirrorballs. Camille and Drew customized them with florals to make the classic dance floor decor feel a little more wedding. Beside their wedding cake, a tower of king cakes complete with Mardi Gras colors awaited guests.
An Intimate Wedding in the French Quarter
Camille and Drew’s intimate wedding ceremony took place at St. Louis Cathedral. Built in 1727, the cathedral sits on the edge of Jackson Square. Its blue spires and elaborate French-style interior make it a favorite for tourists and marriers. The portraits of Camille and Drew in front of the altar feel timeless.
When the ceremony ended, Camille and Drew joined their guests in a beloved New Orleans wedding tradition, the second line. They danced with a brass band all the way to their reception at the House of Blues. This is such an amazing way to set the tone for a reception. People are immediately dancing and interacting. Camille and Drew were excited to see “worlds colliding” with people from different parts of their lives coming together. For the rest of the evening, everyone danced, laughed, and ate king cake.
Being the stylish person that she is, Camille came to the reception ready with a dress change. Her reception dress had big gold sequin starbursts around the bodice and gold fringe at the shoulders. She was like the dance floor’s answer to the mirror balls hanging from the ceiling. Just like with the first dress, this one looks amazing on film.
